Do you believe in trying new authors/ buying their books given the price of hard cover books these days?
Do you buy books by unknown ( to you) authors? And do you buy paper books or ebooks? Do you think buying paper books is better or ebooks?
I’m one of those people who no longer buy physical books these days. I listen to more books than performing the activity of sitting down and reading one. I feel like I can get more into the plot if I listen to the book, that is if the narrator does a good job of keeping me engaged. I think the reason I no longer read books is because after spending most of my working days reading emails, the last thing I want to is to stare at more words, no matter the words are on the screen or on paper.
Anyway, back to the question. Though I have a few favorite authors, I pick my books the same way I pick which TV show or movie I want to watch – by the synopsis. So yes, if I like the synopsis, then I will consider picking up the book. I do get it wrong sometimes, like there are times when the synopsis is terrific but I can’t get into the plot, still I gave the author a shot.
I think, like music, no one knows all the artists out there, so finding books by an unknown to me author is practically an everyday thing. Still, I will consider the synopsis and what the book is about before considering adding to my kindle library. Sometimes, if it’s a how-to book like crochet or cooking, I will consider getting the paperback so I don’t have stare at the screen all day long but no, I will probably never buy hardcover books just because they are so heavy and remind me of the days when I had to carry hardcover textbooks around, which I do not wish to relive.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Yinglan. I think your method is correct, get a feel of the book before buying it.
