Six Sentence Story: Fish

The morning of the first Monday of the new year saw Teri nervously walking toward the office building, the scenes from the New Year’s Eve party kept replaying in her mind and each time it replayed, Teri squeezed her eyes shut, trying to will it away but it seemed part of her brain wanted to dissect the scene like a fishmonger or a butcher separating out the sections of a fish or an animal.

The scene started out with Shelley and Teri arriving at the party, which was being held at the ginger-haired IT technician – Harry’s house – which was quite a large house for someone as young as Harry or is he only young physically, Teri wondered as she took a tour around the house, feeling the slightest of envy creeping with every step. They were the first to arrive, so the house was still quiet, suddenly feeling thirsty, Teri went to the drinks table and scooped herself a cup of an amber liquid.

The moment she took the last sip of the liquid was when the others started to arrive, first, it was one or two, then it was four or five, where are they parking, Teri wondered just as Sasha came in, Teri waved and the moment she felt her arm raised was the moment she felt all hell has broken loose. Sasha walked over and smiled, “Teri, right,” he spoke in his thick and elegant French accent, and all Teri could do was nod awkwardly, “Happy New Year,” Sasha said and moved to the drinks table.

Before Teri could help herself, the words came spewing from her lips like lava from a volcano, “Sasha, are you free next weekend?”
