No, this isn’t a rose. This is a Double Scarlet Flowering Quince. I bought this in the Fall of 2021, planted it when my mom converted my front yard into a rock pile. It’s been putting on a show ever since. It’s one of the earliest to flower and some of the last plants to lose its leaves in the winter.
I’m pretty sure it has something to do with the location – on the hell’s strip where it’s being blasted by the sun from morning to night. Of all the years, I feel this year has truly been the prettiest with its branches full of blooms even though I barely give it water and food.
Maybe after more than 5 years of neglect by me, it knows its way around the ground to search for food and water.
What a resilient plant and to think I got it on sale when its leaves were fried by the sun and its roots were one step away from breaking free of its small container. Just a little room to breathe and good as new.
Quince are beautiful blooms. This one is stunning!
