Teri took one step forward and one step back, one step forward and one step back, “Come on,” she quietly chided at herself, “if you want answers, you gotta march over there and get it.”
She watched as Sasha folded and pocketed the receipt for his order and when he saw her, their eyes met and lingered for a moment before Sasha turned away. It felt like a moment too long for Teri and she knew that that was Sasha and not someone who looked like him. As recognition dawned, Sasha hurried toward the door, “Sasha,” Teri called, he ignored her, “Hey!”
As he reached for the door handle, she grabbed his arm and he turned to her and spoke in a perfect American accent, “I think you had me confused with someone else, ma’am.”
Teri couldn’t believe it, “Oh, sorry, you just look like someone I used to know,” she apologized but in her mind, she was screaming, that’s him, that’s really him, that bastard!
Written for Six Sentence Story. The prompt is “March”.
