How do you react to sarcastic or snide comments in real life?

How do you deal with these situations? Do you ignore them, reply in the same tone or be extra nice to make them realize their mistake?

I am either a fast reactor or a slow reactor in real life, with most of the time leaning toward the slow side. I often beat myself up hours later for not seeing the sarcastic remark and a genius way to respond. So I guess you can I’m a lost opportunist when it comes to this area. I’m chocking the blame on not having a life or friends to chat with. So, if you talk to me in real life and say something sarcastic, I will just smile and not respond because my brain would still be analyzing your previous sentence.

This is one of the reasons I love the blogging world, it allows me to take the time to read over and analyze the comments before responding. I find I can catch the snide and sarcastic remarks this way and think of a clever way to respond. Those comments are usually for my flash fictions and it sometimes even brings a laugh depending on the situation of the story.
