Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Things that are hot

These are some of the pictures I took during my first trip to Yellowstone about 5 years ago. 5 years? Has it really been that long?

Yellowstone 3

Anyway, from science, we learn that the hottest point of the flame is the blue part. It turned out it’s the same here. The darker the blue, the hotter it is. You can see the smoke rising from the blue part in the middle. It was already very hot that summer; we went during the 4th of July weekend and I could literally feel sweat pouring from my pores when I leaned close to the cauldron.

“Lean over,” my mom said, “let the steam clear your pores.” I laughed and rolled my eyes. I wasn’t going to lean over. First looking into the blue water was like looking into a black hole which caused my minor fear of heights to act up and second, it was hot enough as it is. You would normally expect cooler weather at this elevation but during the summer, it’s like stepping into an oven.

Yellowstone 2

Here is another cauldron. You can tell there was a fire recently by the look of the thin trees in the background. The center of this cauldron is a very dark shade of blue which meant it’s extra hot, even hotter than the previous two pictures.

Yellowstone 1

I believe this is a sulfur cauldron by looking at the color of the water. It smelled awful and I believe everyone is familiar with the rotten eggs smell of the sulfur. By the look of it, this liquid is boiling.

Yellowstone 4

And one last picture of a boiling cauldron. As you can see, the water is so boiling hot that it had no choice but to shoot up the sky.

      1. Yes, we all probably would! But it would be nice. There is a hot springs not far away from me and I love going there and allowing the natural hot springs “heal” my aching winter bones. 🙂 (You only go there in the winter otherwise it is too hot).

      2. That sounds very nice especially in the winter. I’ll have to go one year when I’m finally free. I think the closest one is up in Idaho, not far from the Utah border.

      3. They are really nice. It was like getting into a nice warm swimming pool. Close to me, they have them going into big swimming pool like areas. The hottest spring is in a little pool and that is the one I get into.

    1. Absolutely and I did and no doubt, I’ll have the chance to go the third time very soon. It’s one of those places that one will never get bored visiting. 🙂
