Cee’s Which Way Photo Challenge – Up or Down

wp-1474157204998.jpeg

My aunt shared this photograph over social network a few days ago. When I first saw it, I was like, “Holy cow?” My aunt took this picture on the top floor of a hotel in my hometown in China. She was probably there for lunch or to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival. My hometown changed so much. The only way I can tell it’s my hometown is the giant Ferris wheel and I only know it through my mom. She told me my grandpa (her dad) lives a block from the Ferris wheel. Otherwise, I might have mistaken this for London or somewhere in Europe.

I have no idea where this is with respect to what it was 15 years ago. I looked on Google maps and couldn’t figure it out although I did find a Walmart and the name of this river, ShiQi River. Unbelievable and since then is there a river named after my hometown? Compared to the last time I looked at it which would be maybe 10 years ago, the city has grown dramatically.

I wonder when those bridges were built because I certainly don’t remember crossing over any bridges when I was little. When I saw this photograph, it made me realize, I will be like a tourist when I go back next year. I will be gawking and admiring at everything. I will be needing a map just to get around my hometown. Hopefully I can access Google there.

So to conclude the post, up or down the river? Or rather north or south? It looks like that boat is getting to dock.

      1. Wow, it is a small world. I only been to Guangzhou a few times, mostly to handle my immigration papers as I was preparing to come to the U.S. but yeah, I heard some people say the same thing. This is the suburbs compared to the hustle bustle that is Guangzhou.
