#WeekendCoffeeShare: Back to Normal

Good Saturday morning! Thank you for joining me. Come on in for some cold drinks since it’s going to be another warm day today. Can you tell from my blooming Japanese maple?

The weather has been a roller coaster ride this week. It rained hard on Monday which caused my commute to be twice as long. Tuesday was a good day with sunny skies. Wednesday was another rainy day but instead of a wet morning commute, it was a wet afternoon commute. I’m glad I only work three days a week because it means no five-day commute.

If we were having drinks, I would tell you my mom had returned from China on Monday. I was happy at first and couldn’t recollect why I was so looking forward to her being gone. Perhaps, it was because I missed the interaction.

But then I remembered.

That night, after she arrived home, she rummaged through the fridge. I bought kale the day before and I still had some uncooked ground turkey, sliced button mushrooms, and whipping cream in the fridge. She questioned me about it and when I told her, she had that look of disgust on her face.

“If you don’t like it, don’t eat it.” I purchased it with my own cash after all.

The next day, she lectured me about eating too much hot dogs. “What are you talking about?” I asked. “I haven’t eaten a hot dog in a long time.” It turned out, because the ground turkey was wrapped in the shape of a sausage, she thought those were hot dogs. I scratched my head and thought, didn’t I tell her this last night?

If we were having drinks, I would tell you I gained weight. It’s probably because I have been trying to consume all the food I purchased during my mom’s stay in China and apparently, I overestimated on the food I can eat when I’m only eating two meals a day. So I had to break my fast and resume my three-meal diet.

The other reason for my weight gain is probably due to work. I have been at my new job for two weeks and since then, I think I eat more than I work. There’s always so much delicious treats lying around the break room which is directly behind my cubicle and sometimes, I can’t help myself. I have been a little better this week though, I disciplined myself to stick to drinking  tea. There are so many different tea to choose from in this office that sometimes I don’t choose, just close my eyes and randomly pick one.

If we were having drinks, I would tell you I am happy with my new job. I have dual monitors, a fast CPU, and two times more workspace than my previous job. Oh and let’s don’t forget to mention, no mean bosses criticizing my work. In fact, my supervisor was quite surprised when I managed to clean up the books and reconcile the accounts in a little over a week. “You’re zipping through this stuff.” I just smiled and said, “Yeah.”

If we were having drinks, I would tell you I am going on another hiking expedition today. This time to Sardine Peak near Snowbasin Ski Resort. It’s a new hike for me, which means I will have lots of pictures to show when I get back. I hope this time will be better than the last.

Therefore, I should get going. I thank you for joining me today and I hope to be back next weekend.

  1. Glad you’re happy with your new job! That makes life so much better. 🙂

I’m sorry your Mom is so difficult. Negativity is annoying. I know a couple of people who seem to dislike everything. Life can be hard enough without making it worse for themselves…

  2. Glad the new job is working out and that you are on top of the work and near the rewards in the tea room. So hard to resist when they are there. I started my diet again yesterday and of course at dancing there was a wonderful supper that I just couldn’t resist so I know what it is like.
Deep breaths for your mother. Possibly she struggles to accept that you are no longer a little girl. Hard to take constant criticism but you love her and a few deep breaths can be soothing.
Hope you have a good week.

    • Thank you and I know, it’s very difficult to resist when there are so much great food in front of you. Sometimes, I’ll take a deep breath and tell myself, “you can do it. You are not hungry.”
My mother definitely needs a few deep breaths and relax a little.
Hope you have a great week too. 🙂
