Share Your World – Week of February 15, 2021

Do you feel you ask enough questions or do you settle for what you know?

Asking questions is something I suck at. Having suffered through grade school in China where asking questions is frown upon, I found that has impacted my entire life because in China, asking questions meant you’re stupid. So I usually just listen carefully, read instruction (if there’s any) more than once to make sure understand what I’m to do and just try my best.

When did you fail to speak up when you feel you should have?

There are too many times to even count. I am not one of those people who speaks up when I feel something is wrong. I tried to speak up a few times but I would get an earful from my mom. “Why are you being so nosy? It’s because of you I messed up.” Mom would say.

Like the previous question, speaking up is frown upon too, at least in my family. If you ever meet me in real life, you’ll find I don’t talk much because talking seem to be some serious consequences.

When was the last time you felt lucky?*

The last time I felt lucky was two summers ago when I won $1000 in Las Vegas. The moment that felt lucky was when I put in $20 and lost all but $6. I press “Repeat Bet” on the slot machine and all of a sudden, the number began ticking. I thought it would stop at $20 but it kept going. $30, nope. It was $60 when it stopped. I took my winning and moved onto another machine. Around 10 minutes later and 5 slot machines later, my winning was at just over $100. After walking around for a few minutes, searching for my next victim, my eyes landed on the Wheel of Fortune. I inserted my ticket and placed a $5 bet. The wheel spun and spun. Suddenly, music blared, I landed on the bonus tile “100,000 points”, which is an equivalent of $1,000.

I must had exhausted my luck that night because I haven’t this lucky since. I went to West Wendover, Nevada (since there’s no casino nor gambling in Utah) to play slot machines since then and had lost each time.

What is a boulder?

It depends, are we talking about the city in Colorado? Or are we talking about a big ole rock?

Feel free to share your gratitude with everyone!

I am grateful this is a shortened work week which means no working overtime for me.

  1. Thank you Yinglan for Sharing Your World! In the U.S.A. it’s now considered a good thing to ask questions, as many as are necessary so we understand. Nobody is censured for doing so. It’s awful that you were made to feel stupid for asking questions, but different cultures place value on different things. WOO HOO for your lucky win! $1,000?? That’s AMAZING. The most I ever won on a slot was $97 at the Red Garter in Wendover (I don’t know if it’s still there or not) If it IS, the former Nickle slots by the ladies’ room are a good place to play. That’s where I won that money, although it was years and years ago!

    • I don’t think the Red Garter exists anymore, it probably became one of the newer casinos. I think it’s more difficult to win in West Wendover than in Vegas, don’t know why. You must had a wave of luck that day to had won $97.
