Share Your World – Week of December 27, 2021 – As the Year Ends

At 12 a.m. on December 31st/Jan 1st, what will you be doing?  (use your own time zone please)

I will no doubt be tucked cozily beneath my comforter asleep because as hard as I try to stay up these days, I can’t do it. I think my body is still recovering from my December surgeries.

Is there a tradition you have for New Year’s Eve?

You mean like staying up and watch the New Eve countdown with live music? Or watch a movie? Nah, I don’t have any traditions when it comes to New Year’s Eve. It doesn’t feel all that special to me, just another day.

Do you have any hope or reason you find that next year will be better?

Absolutely. I have a lot of hope this next year will be better, at least personally. I will be better at gardening because I have been reading books and listening to podcasts on gardening to make sure I plant the right thing next to each other. I made so many mistakes last year that I was quite surprised I had harvest at all.

It will also be the my rock garden’s first spring. I have so much hope that weeds will stay away from my yard this upcoming year.

Oh, and let’s not forget to mention: I am going to have extra teeth in 2022! It should help a lot with eating.

What’s the biggest personal lesson you learned during 2021?

Buy what I need, not what I want.

I must say, that put a dent in my wallet in 2021 because I never got what I wanted as a child. It was always what my cousin wanted, not what I wanted. So I made a promise to myself long ago that when I have the money, I would get myself what I want.

Well, I got myself what I wanted, alright but in the end, I had to pay for it with nightmares about mishandled finances and large credit card payments.

I shall be more frugal in 2022.

  1. Not quite Happy New Year yet, Yinglan but I’ll wish you one anyway. I don’t know what to expect of tomorrow let alone next year atm. I don’t want to let that five letter word covid have as much influence on the next year as it has on the last two.
    Best wishes,
    Rowena

    1. I am actually looking forward to next year because it means I’m getting closer to gardening season. I don’t want COVID to influence me either even though it hasn’t really done so in the last 2 years but still. Happy New Year, Rowena! 🙂

  2. Thank you for Sharing Your World! I hope your surgeries are healing nicely and you’re feeling a bit more yourself! I too have trouble staying awake past (sometimes) 9 p.m. these days. But I try on New Year’s Eve and go out (if I’m awake) and bang on some pans (probably to the disgust of my neighbors who are sleeping) and welcome the new year in. It’s not a huge deal, but for myself New Year’s brings a small window of hope that things are going to turn around and be better for everyone. Doesn’t last that long granted. With your new teeth and everything, I hope you cook or go out and have some fabulous meals! Happiest of New Years!

    1. I’m getting there, at least with my teeth, though I still have pain now and then.
Hehe 😄 that’ll be funny to watch though I’d imagine you’ll have some annoyed neighbors.
I hope to have a steak after I get my new teeth. 🙂
      Happy New Year!
