Friday Fictioneers: The Final Mystery


Upon cleaning out her father’s study, she came across a small metal box beneath the daybed she often caught him napping.

What is this? She wondered, opening the box and dumping the contents onto the bed.

It was stacks of Joker cards, separated by rubber bands and paperclips, along with a card with dates and dollar amounts listed, black for positive, red for negative. The final date on the card was three months before he disappeared, presume dead, and the number was in red, $100,000.

She stared at the card and sighed, “Dad, just what did you get yourself into?”
