I stare at the clock. Why can’t you last just a bit longer, go a little slower? Most people dream the school day would go faster. Me? I wish it would go a little slower, especially today.

Mom and dad have been fighting again. They didn’t used to fight this much. Lately though, they could start an argument at the drop of a hat. Every little thing aggravates either of them. I have no idea what this morning’s fight was about. I jammed my earbuds into my ears the minute I heard their tones raised and was listening to music all the way in the ride to school until after I bolted from the car before it came to complete stop and sprinted toward the building.

I don’t understand why they are arguing. What changed?

“All right class,” Mr. Miller addresses the class, “you got your homework assignments, you know what to do. Now have a great night. Adios.”

Has the bell rung?

Before I have another thought, the bell goes off. Sighing, I grab my binder and book and head for my locker. There, I toss my things into my backpack and head downstairs toward the school entrance. Let’s get this over with.
