WQ#34: Fun is What Comes After, Right?

I had the more fun last week than I have had in a long while when my co-workers and I spent the day riding roller coasters and sliding down the mountain in a luge fashion.

I will admit that the most scary and difficult part for me was riding the chairlift to our destination because of my fears of heights and falling.

Either way, I don’t recall even having this level of fun, not since early last August when I drove along a scenic backway. In fact, not even the trip to the UK could beat this level of fun.

I think it’s nice for the department to get out and do this kind of thing once in a while. It’s a good change of scenery and it avoids burnout, in my opinion. It was certainly a great opportunity for me to get out of the house to get some soil for the expanding garden.

The expanding garden, of course. I mentioned that in last week’s WQ post. On Tuesday night, I went online and ordered 32 large cinder blocks and 8 smaller square cinder blocks. On Wednesday afternoon, mom disrupted my plans to pick up the blocks by canceling her dentist appointment.

She threw a hissy fit when I showed up with one-third of the blocks in my car. She was angry I didn’t include her in my decision but in my offense, I did, she just chose to disagree with every word I said, like always but why does that matter? I’m not asking her to spend her money or lift a finger. Grumpy and complaining, she decided to help by picking up another third of the blocks while I got the remainder.

Three trips, it took three trips to lug these blocks home. Did I also mention the dimensions weren’t what I thought. It turned out the blocks were 8 inches in height, meaning the width were only 6 inches, and the square blocks were 2 inches wider than the rectangular ones.

This caused me to have to re-think my design. When I laid the blocks out, however, I hit snag. The ground turned out to be quite uneven. I did have to remove the dead grass after all. Darn, and here I thought I could take a shortcut and just put cardboard everywhere.

I finally got the ground somewhat leveled-out last night but at this moment, I’m thinking, what have I gotten myself into? Mom will certainly be no help. All she did the last two nights was looking into the backyard and complain about the ugliness of the cardboard, which aggravates me.

*sigh* Creating is always the difficult part but the fun will be what comes after, right?

  1. I love the shadows on all the blocks, Yinglan. Some of them almost look ruffled. Super great picture. I’m sorry they weren’t all the right size. I hope you can figure something out. Your yard looks beautiful, I think. I’m glad you had such a great time with your colleagues.

    1. Thank you. I think I got it figured out though I might need a few more bricks now.
I’ve never show this part of the yard in photos because it’s always the worst looking part and the part I’ve never known what to do with until now. So I hope I will make it work for me.
