It seems like mom has been planning another trip ever since we got back from the last one. She’s been itching to travel again as we have a 7-day (excluding weekends) break between Christmas and New Year. For me, I do not wish to get on a plane for at least the foreseeable future.
This week, she finally made up her mind. She’s going to Japan for Christmas and I’m not going with her. I have my own agenda.
For the first time since 2010, I will be spending Christmas on my own. Mom won’t be here to tell me what and when to eat, and where to go, I will be on my own as a 30-something independent woman and there’s no way I will be staying home. I’ve been in a cage for far too long and it’s time to break free.
It’s sucks that I can’t tell anyone my plan because when I hinted I might be out of town during Christmas, mom has already given her disapproval, that if I go anywhere, it’d be by plane, not car. I can’t tell any other family member either because they would be blabbing back to her.
And of course, they’ll in turn scold at me. How can you go to such remote locations on your own? It’s dangerous to drive, blah, blah, blah…
To be honest, I didn’t know where to go at first. First of all, it’s Christmas. It might be snowy but it’s definitely cold where I’m at. Then, there are so many places to go, so many places to see, forbidden places – places mom would never allow me to go.
So I decided on my destinations at the same time she decided to purchase the airline tickets.
I’m heading south to Arizona.
I’ve passed through the State of Arizona many times before but never technically explored it. It is also one of those places that are considerably close despite being a 6-8 hour drive. And it’s also one of those places that pops up a lot in supernatural novel. It’s been said Sedona is the intersection of Lay Lines. Last but not least, let’s not forget it’s quite a bit warmer than Utah.
As mom is off exploring Japan, I am heading on my 5-day excursion to Monument Valley, Flagstaff, Horseshoe Bend, Grand Canyon South Rim, and Sedona. All the places mom will never go nor allow me to go. Frankly, I don’t know why. We’ve been to Antelope Canyon one time and she’s already try to convince everyone she knows that it’s not worth it. We went there at the wrong time and though I have planned on squeezing Antelope Canyon into this trip, I’m not sure I can.

That sounds like fun!

It does, doesn’t it? I hope the weather cooperates, I don’t want to be caught in a snow storm.

It’s always been on my travel list. Unfortunately, it’s one of those places mom would never go, so I wouldn’t have a chance of going if I asked for her approval. So this might be my chance.

A roadtrip to Arizona sounds fun. Last year I planned a roadtrip with friends because we considered doing a roadtrip across AZ and NM but it was a lot to see in those short days. Instead we chose Texas to explore Houston and Austin.
I had a coworker who was based in Arizona. I was surprised to learn that my drive from LA to Zion National Park was shorter than his drive from Phoenix to Zion. I guess it’s those windy roads.

It is a lot to see 2 states in a few short days.
I don’t think the windy roads are the problem, I think it’s the lack of roads and the way the freeway is built. Like if I get there by interstate, it would take me an additional 2 hours than if I took the highway. But then, I’ll have to contemplate on the weather as there will be a section of the highway that will go through the mountain.
So I absolutely believe it takes longer to get to Zions from Phoenix than from LA.

FANTASTIC! Lived in Sedona for a while years ago but that entire trip is (my opinion) the best parts of Arizona! Of course the whole state is pretty awesome but the route you’ll get to see is my favorite ❤️ I know this is late in commentary but I hope you had an amazing time! Loved the blog ❤️

I did have an amazing time though I didn’t get to visit Sedona due to time constraints. Next time.
