#SundayStills: Views from a #Window

Having been stuck at home for the long Martin Luther King Jr’s Day weekend because of the week-long snowstorm, I found myself with little to do. Actually, there’s lots to do – read a book, write a story, refresh blog, clean the house, etc. – but I just couldn’t bring myself to do any of it. Instead, I spent the weekend in Lightroom, looking for pictures to edit.

There were plenty of photos for me to edit, particularly the ones from my trip to the UK last May. It’s scary to see I’ve only done so few photo-edits for this trip and how many photos were taken through a #window or a hole-like window.

I saw my first UK sunset through the hotel room window. That was after finding out that not many places were open on a Sunday afternoon including a grocery store and how cramped everything was. Like how the hotel elevator could barely fit two people with two backpacks and carry-on suitcases and how one can cross a hotel room in less than 10 steps. Still, not a bad shot from the tiny hotel room window.

I got this shot from the same hotel room window a few days later. The number of pigeons in the UK was surprisingly populous. I couldn’t recall how many times I spotted these chubby fellas either on the streets or just perched on the ledge of a building next to an open window.

When I saw the sign for “Prison” at Edinburgh Castle, I had to see it. I don’t know what it was that attracted my attention but it was nothing like what I expected. It must had been cruel, a thought occurred to me as I entered the short, long, dank, tiny building. There were only a few so-called windows (holes), I’m guessing, allowing odor circulation so whoever guarding the prisoners don’t pass out from the stench.

This was the view through one of the holes. As good as my imagination is, I couldn’t imagine what the view would’ve been like in the 15th and 16th century when this was an actual prison.

After all these months, I finally edited one of my favorite photos taken on the trip. Actually, it was two photos but I stacked them to make this one.

I took this shot on my nature walk the day after arriving at my mom’s friend’s house. It was near the end of our UK adventure and we needed a few days’ rest after the hectic journey. I was heading back when I saw this dog peeking out of a window. I could see from his eyes that he was yearning to go out and for a moment, I felt sad for him as I know what it’s like to be stuck in the house.
