Saturday Mix #StoryStarter – Not My Day

“Damn it,” she thought, as the heel on her shoe snapped clean off. Bending down to pick up the broken piece of the heel, she felt a buzz in her pocket and groaned, “Not now.” She knew exactly who it was.

Today is not my day, she thought as she limped to her cubicle 20 minutes later. “Oh honey, what happened?” Her co-worker, Patty, in the adjacent cubicle asked.

Before she could answer, her supervisor’s office door flung open and in the doorway stood her boss – tall with peppery hair, and an inflated ego that’s short of popping. “Sarah, why didn’t you answer my call just now? Why, you overslept or something? Coming in 30 minutes late?” Before she could utter a word, her boss walked back to his office, “Please have that report in my box ASAP.” He said before slamming his door.

Sitting down at her desk and finally signing into her computer, she blew out a breath. She had spent the last 5 minutes recounting the morning to Patty – from the 30-minutes train delay to her heels snapping cleanly off – the morning had been an ordeal in the least to say.

By lunch, she had felt like the day had somewhat returned to normal. Thankfully, she had a pair of flats she always kept under her desk for emergencies, though her ankle still ached from the slight twist when the heel broke. She joined Patty for lunch at the food truck across the street.

This really isn’t my day, she thought again as she clutched her aching stomach while sitting on the toilet less than an hour later. She had been visited that food truck almost on a weekly basis since she started working for the company and never had any problem. What changed?

More than 30 minutes later, after rushing back to her desk only to endure a scold from her supervisor who accused her of lazing around in the bathroom, she finally got to her tasks of the day. What did I ever do to him? She wondered. She got his report done, a report, which he was supposed to do. She did everything he asked of her, short of a quid pro quo. She would never stoop that low.

At a quarter to 5, the office began emptying of its workers. Patty bid her a good night and good luck given the day’s events. 15 minutes later, her boss walked out and locked his office for the day. “Have a good night, sir.” She said as he walked pass but all she got was his typical gruff in response.

Another 15 minutes later, she was making her way down the crosswalk to the bus stop on the next block over. The light showed she had 15 more seconds to finish her crossing when out of nowhere came a loud screech of tires. Next thing she knew, she was being tossed into the air before gravity pressed her back to earth with a fist-like manner. This really isn’t my day at all.

  1. Hi YingLan,
Hey, I think you need to check your post to Natalie’s Coffee share for this weekend. The link is broken somehow because I could see your tile but clicking on it returned only an error message and the URL itself did not look right.

I’m pretty sure you can delete and replace the broken tile/link with a good one.

    Regards,
