Sunday Poser #170 – Take a Joke

Can you take a joke?

What about you, can you laugh at yourself? Or at jokes made at your expense? Do you have this sort of relationship with your family or friends where you can laugh at them and they won’t mind?

I am the type of person who believes in the concept of treating others the way I want others to treat me. It means, sure, I can take a joke, I can laugh at myself, but only when the joke isn’t offensive because would you laugh at something that’s offensive to you?

Unfortunately, I don’t have this kind of relationship with anyone. My family jokes about my weight all the time and I find their remark offensive as hell. The worst part being I can’t say anything because I was taught to respect and not to question elders.

I don’t like it when people make fun of my weight. I’ve always been slightly chubbier than the other family members all my life but that’s because I was born this way just like some people was born to be skinny for life. It isn’t and hasn’t been something I can change no matter how I diet or exercise. So when others laugh and call me names like “pig” or “fat girl”, I can never laugh along because it’s incredibly offensive. Who can laugh at that?

Other than jokes about my weight, I can generally take a joke and laugh at myself because a little humility, in my opinion, is good.
