Oops, Wrong Way!

Have you ever unintentionally broken the law?

This is a story I haven’t dared to tell anyone and it’s a story I still cringe every time I think about because what happened would send all kinds of horrifying scenarios into my head.

This happened during my 2023 Christmas road trip.

I just had my dinner and was heading back to the motel. I could have and probably should have used Google Maps to guide me back to the motel but I did not as I knew the way and didn’t want to go through the trouble of setting the GPS. The only problem was I had forgotten every road in the vicinity was a one-way street. I had turned left when I entered the parking lot, which meant that I should’ve turned left when I headed out of the parking lot.

Instinctively, I turned right.

Honestly, I think it’s something anyone could had made given that it was dark with little lights other than the car’s headlamp, and there was no car on the road to give me the indication that it’s a one-way street, and let’s not forget to mention it’s a 2-lane road. However, a block later, a Tesla flashed its lights at me, which, to me, can mean so many things but that’s when I realized, “Shit! This is a one-way street.”

At the next block, I turned left, knowing it would correct my mistake. I blew out a breath, relieved I didn’t get caught, as I drove the remaining way back to the motel.

Note to self: use Google Maps whenever I’m in an unfamiliar area.
