Friday Fictioneers: The Gardener


Please Note: 100% fiction!

For as long as I’ve lived here, I’ve watched Mrs. Carter tend her garden.

On sunny days, she’d fill the watering can and water her plants like she knew exactly how much water each plant craved. On rainy days, I’d see her standing by her living room window with a look of anxiety and sadness, like she was worried about something or someone.

One day, as I was walking my dog, I noticed the garden looked unwell. Concerned, I went up and knocked. Mrs. Carter’s son answered the door, sorrow plastered across his face. My heart sank. Oh, Mrs. C.
