Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #290 – Circular Wonders

Happy Sunday! This week, we are focusing on circles and half circles as Ann-Christine from Leya is hosting Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #290 – Circular Wonders.

I am starting off with these 2 arches I saw during my tour of Monument Valley in December 2023. I joined a tour on that misty afternoon so I didn’t have to take my rental car down the 17-mile muddy trek called Valley Drive. I can tell you it was a wise decision yet I can also say that it might have been more comfortable in the rental car than in a trailer feeling very bumps of the road. Still, I thought it was wise as I got to see some of the things I wouldn’t be able to see if I hadn’t joined a tour, like these arches.

In the first photo, I was told that if I lay in a certain position on the sand and looked up, I would be able to see the drawing of a bird around the hole. I tried and couldn’t see it. As wild as my imagination is, when it comes to art, I might as well be blind.

My next circular wonder comes from the Horseshoe Bend, which I also visited during my trip. While I was there, I was surprised by how calm the water was. From my understanding, the Horseshoe Bend is merely an obstacle diverting the water of the Colorado River.

My final images of this post are also from the same trip. The first photo is that of the Desert Watchtower in the Grand Canyon. It was my first stop upon entering the park from the east gate. Even in December, lines were formed at the entrance of the watchtower with people wanting to get a look inside the watchtower. Unfortunately, I was quite tight on time and decided it would have to be one of those things I leave until my next visit.

The second image is that of the Natural Bridge in Bryce Canyon National Park. Of the many times I’ve photographed this wonderful natural landmark, I think this photo is my favorite.

    1. I can’t recall the legend off the top of my head but I think it’s supposed to be phoenix. The horseshoe bend was wonderful, just wish I went at the right time so half of it wasn’t in shadows.

  7. All wonderful selections. Nature has a way of bringing us the most wonderful art. And I see the bird! It’s right there looking at you. A phoenix. I love that you included Horseshoe Bend. It does look pretty tranquil. Beautiful Yinglan.
