#WeekendCoffeeShare – Tulip Festival

Good morning! Welcome, would you like to come in?

Yes, I know our lovely host for #weekendcoffeeshare, Natalie of Natalie the Explorer, is taking a break this week but it’s becoming a habit of mine to recap my week. So why not?

I took a day off work this week to see the Tulip Festival. Even though I have plenty of tulips in my garden, the Tulip Festival was a sight. The website said 750,000 bulbs were planted over 50 acres of land. It took me an hour to get there – driving almost 50 miles and crossing 3 counties – but it was well worth it.

There were so many varieties of tulips, some of which I didn’t even know it existed. My favorite variety was the double tulip. It’s a nice break from the ordinary squarish kind of tulip and I love this kind of different.

You might think it’s a peony or a rose if you don’t look closely at the stem. That’s why I love it. It makes you think twice and sometimes, even leaves you with an air of mystery, like what are you?

In the days prior to the trip, I kept checking the weather, hoping the weather would hold and the rain would stay away until I’ve walked through the gardens at the festival. Thankfully, there was a couple of drizzles while I enjoyed the festival and Mother Nature waited until I came full circle to open up the sky with a downpour.

I was glad I was allowed 2 hours to complete the tour before the downpour. Even then, I’m not sure I’ve seen everything. The place is so big and one can never rush photography nor the admiration of these beautiful blooms.

I was also glad I went alone. With the others, there’s no doubt I could’ve lingered for so long. I would’ve probably have to endure the loud talking from my aunts and mom and there’s no doubt I would’ve spent the whole time chasing after them instead of spending the time looking for photography compositions and spending the precious minutes composing my photos. I think that being calm and slow are what makes great photos.

If I have another opportunity, I would definitely go again.
