Six Sentence Story: Platform

Please note that this is a work of fiction!

Sitting on the bench in the middle of the train platform, 16-year-old Bonnie’s knees bobbed up and down as she bit her nails nervously. It’s her first time riding the train on her own and at that moment – 20 minutes from the train’s arrival – her brain was going wild imagining all sort of scenarios. It’s going to be alright, it’s going to be alright, she thought to herself while rocking her rainbow-color platform shoes back and forth and side to side.

Out of nowhere came this elderly lady and she pointed at the empty spot on the bench next to Bonnie, Bonnie nodded and the lady sat down next to her, “Heading to someshere special, my dear?”

“Just going to see my grandmother,” Bonnie said, placing a hand on her suitcase, “what about you?”

The elderly lady smiled, “Just heading to see my granddaughter,” she leaned in and spoke softly as if she’s about to reveal a secret, “she’s being naughty and ditching school.”

Written for Six Sentence Story. The prompt is “Platform”.

  1. What are the odds while Bonnie is going to see her grandmother, someone else’s grandmother is not only on her way to see her granddaughter but sits right beside Bonnie. Story ideas a plenty, Yinglan!
