Sunday Poser #194 – Human Lie Detector

Can you tell when you’re being lied to?

So – can you tell immediately if someone is lying to you, or trying to con you? If so, how do you respond? Have you ever been conned online?

I’m no human lie detector but I am good at reading people when they’re in the room. I’m not so good at reading people when I can’t see them. I don’t know how to explain how I know other than it’s a gut feeling. I suppose there are tell-tale signs of when a person is lying but what if one is a pathelogical liar?

I’m not a good liar myself. I can tell a couple of white lies to appease someone or certain situations but that’s just about it. My mom, on the other hand, would say I’m an excellent liar because I write a lot of fiction but that would be like saying all novelists are great liars. Writing a good story is not related to being a good liar.

So, can I tell right away if I’m being lied to?

If the lie is incredibly egregious, yes, I can tell and I don’t think I’m the only one. I would say anyone with common sense would know a lie when they see one.

I don’t think I’ve ever been conned online before. I have a good sense when it comes to emails and after more than 6 years at my current job, I’ve developed a pretty good eye when it comes to detecting spam and scam emails. Still, I can be wrong sometimes.

  1. I can’t necessarily tell if someone is lying or not, but something in their energy tells me to what degree I feel comfortable trusting them. If it’s online… pretty much not at all, until given a reason to give it.
    Great post! 🙂

    1. Thank you. I agree about the energy, I feel that, too, when I’m around people. I can’t explain it but something about a person’s energy, at least for me, can give off whether or now they are being truthful.
