Is there a particular song that makes you cry or become emotional?
I cry at movies and TV shows but I don’t think I’ve ever cried over a song or any kind of music. I think it’s because music is poetry and I’m not particularly good at deciphering the meaning of poems. I’m more of a story person.
Is there a particular song you cannot stand?
There’s no particular song that’s coming to mind but there are several kinds of music which I cannot stand – music with a slower-than-snail tempo, music with an incredible amount of swear words, and music with rap vocals.
I typically listen to music while I’m driving, so I need something with at least a moderate tempo to keep me awake. I don’t mind having one or two swear words in a song (after all, we are adults) but when it’s in every line, it kinda puts me off. No offense to those who like rap music but I find rap music is just not the kind of music for me. I am someone who can only listen to one verse of rap lyrics, any more than that puts me off.
Does any particular song remind you of someone?
There’s a song called Broken Home by the band 5 Seconds of Summer that reminded me of the year and a half when I lived in Texas. It’s a story of a son/daughter watching his/her parents fighting constantly. It reminded me of my mom and step-dad during that year and a half because I couldn’t remember if there was a second of peace in that period where they didn’t argue and I was often caught in the middle of it, witnessing the destruction of their relationship.
Do you have a favorite song?
I have many favorite songs and it’s constantly changing as I periodically add new music to my playlist. Basically, the entire playlist is a list of my favorite songs.

Thanks for joining in Yinglan. I’m not a fan of rap, and songs that are nothing but swear words are a real turn off.
