Another fictional tale…
You won’t believe this, I’ve been walking for at least the last 30 minutes, trying to find my uncle’s house, which supposedly is about 0.5 miles from the train station, according to Google Maps. For the first 15 minutes, Google Maps made me walk in a circle from the train station back to the train station, reluctantly, I located the attendant in the train station to ask for help.
In heavily accented English, the attendant drew me a map on a piece of scratch paper. She said to exit the station, turn right, walk 4 blocks, cross the street, and head another 3 blocks. How do I even know what the house looks like? I’ve never been there. This “uncle” is not even a relative I’ve seen. Can you tell it’s my first time in a foreign country?
The attendant couldn’t answer that. “I suppose you’ll know when you know.” Whatever that means.
Rolling my suitcase alongside me, I hiked the 3 blocks up the hill. The attendant never said there was a steep hill on the way. One…two…and three blocks. The house must be on the right. There’s nothing but a wall on my left. Could it be this house? With the stack of suitcases and broken bicycle?

Oh how many times Google has lead us astray. Love your story Yinglan and the suspense at the end. Thanks for joining in.

Thank you. Haha, I think I would lose count the number of times I got lost with Google Maps in my hand. 😀

Our first SatNav had us going round in circles when we were house hunting in Wales. It took flying lessons through the car window off a cliff.

My mom borrowed a navigation system from a friend back before smartphones existed, when we were still printing out pages upon pages of driving direction. That brick-size thing took us in circles as we tried to get from the train station to her friend’s house 30-miles away.

Ha!! We invested in a road map book of the county and it’s a godsend!! Especially with road works!

Oh dear, being lost in a foreign country is never any good but… perhaps, maybe, she/he could have prepared better?

I don’t think anyone could’ve prepared better for when traveling to a foreign country. Something similar actually happened to me and I did extensive research on Google Maps and YouTube prior to my departure.
