Friday Fictioneers: Just a menu and a hot meal

If there’s anything to learn from my travels, it’s never travel without provisions on Christmas day because everywhere will look like a ghost town and you will be scouring Google Maps for a place to sit down for a nice hot meal.

I was fortunate that one time, having stumbled upon the only restaurant that was open on Christmas. Inside was ghostly and the waitress and bartender were huddled together by the TV, watching nothing in particular. Their eyes lit up when they saw my face. “What can I get for ya?”

“Just a menu and a hot meal, please.”

    1. I was traveling last Christmas and didn’t feel lonely. Finding a place to eat was a challenge, sure, but I think loneliness is dependent on the individual and the destination.
