#SundayStills: Monthly Color Challenge – #Black and Black and White

I saw this view from my backyard and just knew I must grab the camera for a quick picture. This was taken exactly a week ago on the night before a cold front would arrive and the make the temperature dip 20 degrees Fahrenheit – from 80 degrees to 60.

It was the last 80-degrees day of 2024. According to the weather forecast last night, today will be the last 75 degree day of 2024. The temperature will only go down from here. We haven’t had the first frost yet and it’s late. It’s usually around the middle of the month but it looks like it may be the 29th this year. My region is kind of finicky when it comes to things like first frost and weather. No one can really predict until the weather is at the door.

Anyway, I am glad I got this shot of the full moon with the mountain silhouetted in the background. I don’t know about you but I find it very boring to photograph the moon with a black sky background. With the mountain, it adds a layer to the photo, don’t you think so?

I think there’s a certain beauty to black and white photos when it’s done right. What I mean is when it’s edited correctly. I don’t like just plain black and white photo. That’s boring. I’m sure the photographers back in the day messed around in their darkrooms to make some of the objects in their photo stand out more than the others.

Not every photo can be turned black and white and look good, I think. There are certain photos that looks good in black and white but not in color and there are some photos that vice versa. I have many black and white photos in my archive and this remains to be one of my favorites because I like the light on the snow-capped peaks.

  1. These are really wonderful shots! Winter is on its way. We had our Hunter’s Moon and the frost to go with it. Little can be predicted in MA where the weather is concerned, but the arrival of the cold is almost always on time.

    1. I’m glad to hear that. At least some places are more punctual when it comes to the cold. 😀 I keep looking at the weather forecast and it seems like first frost is getting delayed this year.
