“Attention, all passengers,” my attention turned to the lady speaking over a microphone, “will the following individuals please report to Gate 12B for seat assignments.” I listened intently for my name to be called, to save about $100, I opted for a cheaper plane ticket where I don’t get to pick my seat. It’s worked out pretty good the last three times I’ve flown, how bad can this be?
The second I heard my name called, I jumped up from my seat and stepped over to the desk where I repeated my name, “Here you are,” the lady smiled at me and exchanged my existing boarding pass for the new one. I returned the smile and looked down at the ticket, eager to see my seat assignment, the moment I saw it, I felt my eyes grow big. Seat 17B, are you kidding me, I thought, I’m going to be wedged in the middle, who knows who A and C are, I’m going to be wedged in the middle seat for the next 3 hours, ugh!
Written for Six Sentence Story. The prompt is “Wedge”.

Look on the bright side. It could be worse and it’s only 3 hours.

Nice to look on the bright side. I remember I was stuck in the middle seat for an 8 hour flight. It was horrible and my knees were in lots of pain after.

Luckily my flights have all been rather pleasant!

If you are accompanied it’s ok, but if you’re alone as I normally am, it’s a nightmare!

I agree, at least you can tell that person to move so you can stretch your legs.

Three hours is not fun, but you are getting $33 per hour savings to do it, not bad. Besides, you can put up with anything for a few hours you can’t put up with for days and days, right?

Way to bring money and math into the equation! 😀 You do have a point, $33/hour is enticing but not when it’s accompanied by misery. I think I will still go with a premium option.
