Sunday Poser #213 – Friendship

Does age difference matter in friendships?

Do you find making friends with people who are of a different age than you, easy? And do you find making new friends easy?

I don’t think age matters in friendships, as long as 2 individuals are willing to participate in the act of friendship, it’s all fine by me.

I’m pretty sure all the people I call “friends” are all different age than me. I don’t know many people beside some of my co-workers who are similar age to me. I’m pretty sure most of the friends I’ve made in this blogging universe are much older than me.

Through the years, I’ve discovered it’s easier for me to get along with older people than younger ones, perhaps it’s because I have an old soul or something. I used to reminisce quite a bit on my blog about the age before smartphones. In fact, I had a flip phone until 2019 but I seem to be adapting to new technological things rather quickly.

When the house next to mine got rented out my now-former neighbor moved in, I quickly befriended him. He was probably twice my age but he had many stories to tell and I enjoyed them so much. He used to recount his time driving touring buses for important clients and he would share some of the stories his clients told to pass the time on the bus. It was absolutely fascinating. Unfortunately, he moved away a few months ago and I had no way to contact him.

I think the important thing is, if you’re willing to be my friend, I’m willing to be yours.

  1. Thanks Yinglan for sharing your thoughts. I’m sorry that your neighbor moved away and deprived you of friendship. It’s often true that making friends with older people is easier as they have more patience and time to spare.
