Sunday Poser #214 – Voice of Reason

Are you the voice of reason in your household/ family or is there someone else who gives the correct advice?

Are you the one people around you turn to for advice or is there someone else to whom you go if you need advice on some matter of importance?

If anything, I’m the voice of “silence” in this household. I keep my mouth shut so I won’t get blamed if anything goes wrong. The voice of reason will always be my mom and I would never call it “voice of reason,” it’s more like the voice of “tantrum” or voice of command.

It’s funny because my mom would often say her father mistreated her when she was a child. “He would scream, he would beat me for no reason,” she said and would go on to defend herself that when she yells and screams at me, it’s within reason and for my own good. “It’s because I care about you.”

If you care about someone, you don’t do this to them. That’s not within reason.

Anyway, back to the question.

I’m actually kind of glad I’m not the voice of reason because I don’t want to bear that kind of responsibility, particularly for 7 other individuals. Not to be selfish but I feel I’m at a point when it’s important to care about myself.

Unfortunately, the rest of the family seemed to always be deflecting to me to be their voice of reason. In turn, I would often deflect to my mom. Any important decision her siblings must make should go through my mom because another one of her tantrum rises.
