Sunday Poser #217 – Addicted to Screens?

Are you- or do others call you a screen zombie?

Do you think you are a screen addict or in the opinion of others you’re a screen zombie? How much time do you spend on your device for blogging?

I am more of a listening addict than a screen addict because either my headphone or my earbuds are always in my ears listening to either a podcast or music or a book. My screen is usually off while those things are happening.

I have never and will never blog from my phone unless I have no other choice like when I couldn’t access WordPress from my laptop. I will always choose my laptop when it comes to blogging but that’s only about 2 hours a day, 3 tops if I’m catching up on blog reading in the WP reader. If my face is staring at my phone screen, I will be either shopping on Amazon or I’m playing a game or I’m reading.

I’m trying out Amazon reading unlimited to see if I can save a little bit on books. Since I finished my Japanese course on DuoLingo, I’m now turning to books to continue the learning. Unfortunately, the selection on Prime reading is very limited and I don’t want to buy so many books. So I’m joining unlimited to access those books.

If anyone’s a screen addict in my household, it would be my aunt – my mom’s youngest sister. She’s staring at her phone 24/7, even when she’s supposed to be sleeping. I’m guessing the only time she’s not looking at her phone would be at work and hopefully in the shower.

At the dinner table, I would often say she’s mindlessly eating because her attention is on the screen that she’s not paying attention to her body’s cues such as fullness and hunger. It’s irritating watching her chow down 4 pieces of bread with nothing like peanut butter or jelly or how she would mindlessly consume $5 worth of fruit in 5 minutes.

By the way, I call her kind of eating “mindless” because it’s the opposite of mindful, which is what I practice. So my phone screen is off during meals, no exceptions.

    1. I agree. It’s why I no longer like family get-togethers. Everyone is either screaming at each other or looking at their phones, particularly during meal. So rude!

  1. I use my phone for WP Reader mostly and to publish posts of short lengths. For large posts, I use my laptop.
There is no Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or TikTok on my phone. I do use WhatsApp but only when I’m using wifi at home.
