I spent my Sunday at a RV show. I’ve been told this was one of the largest in the country. We were supposed to go on Saturday but the weather was too unpredictable for my mom to drive 45 minutes. It was her idea to attend this RV show, so if she doesn’t want to go on Saturday, fine by me. There was no way I was willing to stick my foot in there because I knew I would get blame if anything goes wrong.
Do I want a RV?
Sure! Someday when I am no longer working or worry about paying bills and loans. Right now, I am just starting.
My mom, meanwhile, has this crazy idea that I would be retiring when she retires. What she’s thinking? I can’t be quite sure. There is no way I would do such a silly thing. For one thing, I would have no income. It’s too early to withdraw from any of my retirement fund accounts and certainly too early to apply for Social Security. Meanwhile, my aunt (mom’s youngest sister) is encouraging me to spend. “Don’t invest your money, or CDs,” she would often say, “buy the things you like, go on vacation.”
Except, how does one pay bills with no money?
Although it was not exactly how I wanted to spend my Sunday, it was probably an experience I will remember for a while. There were trailers from small to large and camper vans from compact to as big as a one-bedroom house. Even though I am not looking to buy a RV, touring the interior of each one certainly got the imagination churning.
I looked at the price of each one, my head would start doing math. Often, it was whether it was more worth it to buy a trailer and trade the of the cars in for a truck but without knowing the price of the truck and no doubt prices will go up, there were too many variables to reach a conclusion.
After few hours, my mom had found a camper van she liked. The price had been further reduced in the last 2 days and the salesmen were willing to discount further to get her to sign a contract. After a long discussion, my mom told the salesmen she would think about it. Y
You know what that mean, right?
After walking another round to look at more camper vans, we left and went home. To be honest, I was glad my mom didn’t take the offer because it would’ve been another purchase I would be blamed for and I am most certainly am not retiring when my mom retires, that’s for sure.

Thanks heavens she didn’t sign anything!

Soon after my husband retired we went to Camper World. IIt all sounded good but the salesman gave us an honest answer when I asked ” will it be easy to sell if we find we’re not using it”.
he answered “no”, and they greatly depreciate.

That’s a honest salesman. I can see that a RV would be hard to sell.
