Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #337 – Bold

Happy Sunday! Sofia is hosting this week’s Lens-Artists Photo Challenge, and inspired by the challenge on Complimentary Colors from a few weeks prior, she has chosen the theme of Bold.

Bold colors! That was what I thought of, too, when I saw the word Bold.

I feel like everyone has a different definition of bold colors. To me, bold colors are colors that jump out at me. These flowers jumped out at me when I saw them, even after 7 years when I re-discovered this picture in my WP photo archive, which was incorrectly labeled.

I saw these flowers when I visited China in 2018. Even in the middle of January, spring was already on its way.

I don’t know what you would call this. Bold? Selfish? Stupid?

I love to go on trips by myself, especially road trips. Solitude is kinda my thing. I do not like traveling with other people because I feel like no one considers my feelings and schedules. People likes to make me wait. Maybe it’s because I’ve never had a good travel buddy.

Anyway, when I went on my road trip in 2023, I was called many things by my relatives but bold wasn’t one of them. Personally, I think I consider this to be a bold move on my part because I’ve always been afraid of stepping out from under my mom’s shadow. It’s almost like I have a leash around my neck. So to go on the trip by myself like this is bold in my dictionary.

I believe I’ve showed this picture before but in my opinion, this is a good example of Bold. This man could have had any career he wanted but instead, he followed his father’s footsteps and became a juggler of dangerous objects. At the time of this act, if I recall, this man was in his 70’s and he had been doing this for about 50 years.

I don’t know what you think but this was a bold career move.

  1. That is definitely a bold undertaking to travel alone. I understand, completely, your desire to travel by yourself! You can take your time whether it’s a museum or taking photos like you have shared here. Beautiful!

    1. Thank you. I think I have more fun when I’m alone, too, and less stress and anxiety even though I have felt awkward when I join a tour group and everyone in the group was either a couple or a family but, hey, I want the same thing as everyone in the group, so it’s all good.

  2. I enjoy travelling with others but sometimes feel I’m put in charge and that is too much responsibility! I loved reading your post and your photos too, Yinglan. You have a way of telling stories that is very compelling.

    1. I’ve traveled with others and was put in charge of everything. Yes, it’s too much responsibility, especially when I must decide where to eat and what to order. It’s like being a parent to a bunch of elderly adults.
      Thank you for reading. 🙂
