#AtoZChallenge 2025 – Arizona

The state of Arizona was one of the first places I’ve traveled to after arriving in the US on December 21, 2001. My mom, stepdad, and I took off for Austin, Texas the morning after my arrival. We drove across the state of Arizona, stopping in variety places to take pictures of the giant cactus littered along the highway.

That wasn’t the first time I’ve passed through the state of Arizona and it wouldn’t be the last but that seemed like Arizona was all it was for me – a pass-through state – like we must drive the 19-mile corner of Arizona when we’re heading for Vegas or travel through it to get to New Mexico. I’ve never explored the scenery the state has to offer.

The longest I’ve stayed in Arizona was during my Christmas road trip of 2023. Heck, I spent Christmas there, exploring the Grand Canyon and Flagstaff.

The top photo is of San Francisco Peak, near Flagstaff and the below photo is the scenery in downtown Flagstaff on Christmas night – eerily empty. I had to stop and take the picture of the mountain as it was the final day before I head back to Utah. There’s something iconic about this mountain and it’s not its name but I can’t put a finger on it.
