#AtoZChallenge 2025 – Dinosaur National Monument

The main part of Dinosaur National Monument is located near Vernal, Utah. There’s another part of the monument that’s located near the Colorado state line.

I’ve been there 2 times but after the first visit, I focused more on photographing the natural landscapes than the wall full of not yet excavated fossils. I have been told that if you really want to see dinosaurs, this is the place to see it, and not in a natural history museum in a metropolis somewhere.

Unfortunately, I have little to no interest in dinosaurs. You can teach me to tell the dinosaurs apart but I cannot guarantee I’ll remember it.

Anyway, this is more of my jam – the natural landscape. I can definitely picture some happy dinosaurs roaming this place.

  1. I can’t really picture dinosaurs roaming the area, although I realize they did. The paintings of them have such different backgrounds. Different and probably unrealistic.

    1. Me neither, although I imagine the landscape was very different in the time of the dinosaurs since dinosaurs did become extinct because of planetary evolution.

  2. I too can ‘see’ the dinosaurs roaming the landscape you caught on camera. it looks so open. it’s wierd because I have an interest in dinosaurs, but not so much that I could name more than the famous ones, tyrannosaurus, stegosaurus, brachiosaurus….that’s it. mostly my interest is due to the Jurassic Park movies and a few odd documentaries…i mean what would they be like? there’s all kinds of theories, on whether or not the were colorful or had feathers or what kind of parents they’d be… We can make educated guesses but we can’t ever really know.
