#AtoZChallenge 2025 – Horseshoe Bend

It should come as little surprise that I would choose Horseshoe Bend to represent H because it’s an amazing place, if you pick the right time to visit.

Horseshoe Bend is located in Page, Arizona and if the city of Page sounds familiar, that’s because Antelope Canyon is nearby, which is another stunningly beautiful place to visit, but I’ve used my letter A for Arizona. Oh well…

It is a horseshoe-shaped meander in the Colorado River. There are other notable meanders in the continental US, which includes the one in Gooseneck State Park in Utah (a place I want to go) but the most well-known meander is the Horseshoe.

I visited Horseshoe Bend on Christmas Eve, 2023. To be honest, I should’ve gone the previous afternoon. Many recommendations called for going at around sunset or sunrise. With the sun so low in the winter and the days so short, visiting the Horseshoe Bend at the incorrect time can result in a giant shadow being cast on the lower half of the rock.

Unfortunately, I had to drive across 2 state lines to get a new Sim card for my phone the previous day, thus delayed my arrival in Page, Arizona quite a bit. Plus, my aunt and uncle were tagging along (in a separate car) and they do not like to get up before 10 AM. So, there’s that.

If I was traveling by myself, I would had followed recommendations so I could capture the best photo at this iconic location. Oh well, I guess it’s a perfect opportunity for a second visit.
