Valley of Fire State Park is located near Las Vegas, Nevada. I believe it’s closer to Mesquite, which is a border town near Arizona, or maybe it’s about half way between Mesquite and Las Vegas. I went there with my mom in 2015 on our way home after attending an event in Las Vegas over the weekend.
Las Vegas is about a 6-hour drive from home. My mom and I made the drive a few times but 2015 was the only time we had stopped at Valley of Fire State Park on our way home.
Before having been to Capitol Reef National Park, I would compare Valley of Fire to Arches National Park because of the red rocks. Personally, I think the rock formations at Arches are much more impressive than Valley of Fire but yes, I now think Valley of Fire is like Capitol Reef.
Which do I like better? Definitely Capitol Reef.
I would definitely visit Valley of Fire again. It’s been a decade since I’ve been there and I want to explore some more, especially because that visit was mostly a drive-through. My mom’s friend did the driving as my mom, for some reason, was afraid to traverse the roads. I will probably be able to maneuver the roads as I’ve driven in plenty of twisty roads.

I was there once! It was years ago and I went to Las Vegas with a friend and we drove up there and then down to beach at Lake Mead to swim.

I’ve been to Lake Mead a few times but never swam there. I don’t think I want to either.

We stayed there in our RV and spent a lot of time exploring from our motorcycle. Here’s one of our photo albums. https://froggi.smugmug.com/Travel/2010-Visiting/2010-03-Valley-of-the-Fire-State-ParkDonna: Click for my 2025 A-Z Blog

Wow, I would love to do that someday – the RV part, not the motorcycle.
