Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #346 – Cinematic

Happy Sunday! Sofia is hosting the Lens-Artists Photo Challenge this week with the theme of Cinematic. Hmm…

This is the first picture that came to mind when I see the word, “cinematic.”

This was taken on my last day in Taipei over a month ago. My mom and I decided to visit the National museum. As we crossed the street, I saw this group shooting a video of some kind. My guess is a music video, judging by the simple set up and the outfit.

We bypassed the group and just as I was about to enter the museum, I turned and look back at the way I came and decided to take a photo of the buildings (as if I needed more). The way the 4 of them stood looked like something was coming in the distance like in the movies, when you see the backs of a group of individuals looking into the distance at whatever was hurtling toward them.

That’s what this picture looked like to me, can you see it?

I can totally see this scene played out in a movie, can you? Probably not in the beginning though, I see this as a climax, where the bird feels distraught and sad and hangs his head in shame until something happens and everyone suddenly requires him to go to the rescue.

Finally, I shot this photo with my phone while I was on a bus heading for Mount Aso to see the volcano. The bus stopped for a moment, giving me a chance to capture the scenery from the window. I later edited this on my phone using Lightroom and added a kind of a yellow tint, to somewhat counteract the color difference from the tinted window.

I like that the final result gave a look and feel of a road trip, like the opening of a film about road trip.

  1. Yinglin, great response to the challenge! I agree. The first image of the group looking off in the distance looks like a scene from a movie. Thee bird and the final image from the bus could also be scenes from a movie.
