#AtoZChallenge 2025 – Ximending

There’s a place called the Red House, located in Ximending, Taipei.

It’s a historical place dating back to the Japanese Colonial Period from 1895 to 1945. It was once an opera theatre but now, it’s part of the commercial district of Ximending.

Unfortunately, it was not opened to the public when we visited in March. Getting a photo of the outside was difficult as there were a lot of tourists trying to get a photo of the same thing. I’m glad I was patient to wait until people started to walk toward the shopping avenues.

My mom – a former history teacher – told me that if I see any red brick buildings in Taiwan, it was most likely built during this era. We saw a red brick train station later on our trip. Now a national museum, that red brick train station was built in the same era as the Red House.
