In your opinion, is it better to be independent or rely on your family as one grows older?
Do you think we should surrender our independence and accept help from our family/ friends when we are in need? Do you think it will be more satisfying for them that they are there to help us? Or would you rather be independent, doing it on your own?
Of course, it’s better to be independent!
If there’s one thing to know about me, it’s that I hate asking for help and relying on anyone. When I came home from my recent trip to find a couple of dead pepper plants despite having them on self-watering trays, I asked my aunt if she’s been checking on my plants on a daily basis. She said she had. I asked why she didn’t notice the wilted pepper plants. She told me she didn’t know they were wilted. The entire tray was full of pepper plants, mostly same variety, surely she could tell some are different from the others.
This reinforces the fact that I cannot rely on anyone in the family because they seem to only care about things half-way.
Maybe there will come a time in my life when relying on family members will become a necessity but until then, I will be doing things myself because only I can make sure that the things that are most important to me are treated right and done right.

Thanks for sharing Yinglan! It’s always better to rely on one self but no harm in asking for help when needed.
