What do you see #296 – Ginger into the World

From day one, Ginger has always been a fast learner. She was the first to hatch, first to flap her wings, and first to fly. “Mama, when can I go out into the world?” She asks one day.

“Now now, Ginger, not so fast. To go out into the world, you will need to know how to find your way back home, back to me.”

“I know how to find my way, mama,” Ginger flaps her wing, eager for her adventure to begin.

Her mother falls silent for a moment, pondering on the idea to let her darling girl out into the mad world. “I tell you what. I’ll let you off to the world today if you will promise to bring home some grub.”

“Thank you, mama!” Ginger soars into the sky with joy.

It’s not long before she finds grubs in a tree nearby. Hungry, she slurps a couple until a voice behind her startled her. “Hey, what cha doin’, missy, slurpin’ up my grub?”

Fill with dread and fear, Ginger turns to find herself face to face with someone’s who is three times her size. She gulps. “I…I…I’m sorry, mister,” she says with a shaky voice, “I…I didn’t know.”

They stare at one another for a long moment before he burst into laughter, “That was awesome! That look on your face was so priceless.” He clears his throat before introducing himself, “Name’s Bruce. My friends tell me I may be scary looking but I’m actually a teddy bear on the inside. Now, tell me, what is a young lad like yourself doing in this neck of the woods?”

Ginger immediately relaxes, “It’s my first time away from my mother. I want to be out on my own, so…”

“Ah, an eager beaver, eh?” Ginger shrugs. “I don’t blame you. Listen, if you don’t have a place to stay, you can always stay in my humble abode.”

“Thanks but no thank, this is only a one-day outing. My mother is expecting me home, so maybe next time?”

Bruce shrugs, “Suit yourself.” Hurriedly, Ginger flies toward home, pondering on what just happened and how it could’ve turned into a disaster.
