Six Sentence Story: Peg

Continued from this story…

Helen sat down on the sofa next to Peg, her co-worker, crossed her legs, and watched her other co-workers sing their hearts out. Did I sound this good, she wondered before turning to Peg and asked, “how did I sound?” Peg hesitated before passing Helen her glass of cocktail, “I would have never pegged you as a drinker,” Helen said, gave the drink a whiff, only to pinch her nose and held the drink at arm’s reach, the drink was reeked of alcohol, “seriously?”

“Seriously,” Peg said, “it’s liquid courage, a couple sips of this and I would bet everyone who hears you would peg you as a world-class singer.”

Helen turned her attention back to the drink, no, I shouldn’t, her mental voice said, I have to drive. At the same time, mental images of her singing like no one’s watching and dancing with abandon flashed across her mind, I do want that, she thought, just not this time.
