Sunday Poser #251 – Rituals and Customs

Were there rituals or customs you used to follow but have given up because you’ve changed or times have changed?

Are there any old customs or rituals that you have abandoned due to changing circumstances or needs?

I am not aware of any rituals or customs that ever ran in the family, not even when I was in China. I know dinner time was at 6 PM sharp each night, unless we went out for dinner. Everyone gathered around the table where the food was served family-style. There was no tea after dinner but then, I wouldn’t know as I was too busy trying to get through the piles of school work.

There was even less structure after moving to the US. Dinner was usually just me and my mom, while my step-dad usually ate his meals separately. We rarely ate together as my step-dad did not like Chinese food and my mom and I was never accustomed to eat burgers and salad for dinners.

These days, any rituals and customs are mine alone and I like to call them hobbies and routines rather than rituals. One of my rituals is to spend at least one hour each night writing blogs and stories. I find that it helps me to put my thoughts onto a page and helps with sleep.
