Happy Saturday to all! Thank you, Natalie, for hosting #WeekendCoffeeShare and bringing this small group of bloggers from around the world together to share highlights of the week.
This week, I continued with my crochet. I completed one strip using the mosaic method of crochet. It’s a change from the usual single-color crochet and I liked it. If you’re unfamiliar with mosaic crochet, it’s a method that requires two colors of yarn that alternates every two rows.
I originally wanted to do the mosaic crochet pattern that featured airplanes because I thought that would be fun, but after trying to crochet a particular row five times with success, I had to move on to a less challenging pattern.
This pattern is called “gentle waves”, do you see it? I’ll admit that I did not see until I saw it through my phone’s camera.
This stripe took me three nights to complete. I’ve been crocheting for 2 to 3 hours a night while trying to get through a series on Netflix. It’s a sitcom and it goes by quick but there are a lot of episodes. I am now about 70% through the series.
After this strip, I moved on to try a tapestry crochet pattern. I enjoy doing the challenging crochet patterns. I think they’re more fun and less interesting.
Tapestry crochet is an interesting beast to tackle because it involves a meticulous counting of the stitches in order to put the right color in the correct spot. Unlike mosaic crochet, where colors are alternated every two rows, tapestry crochet is two or more colors every row.
This pattern is called “tapestry triangle” and I’ve been working on it for two nights already and still not even at the half-way point. It’s quite a slow progress for this pattern.
Between crocheting and watching TV, I like to got check on the seedlings. I tried to get a picture of them but for some reason, none of the photos came out quite right. With the next week being warm-ish, I think I will bring some of the cold tolerant seedlings into the sun. I think they will like that.
Finally, I did something this week I couldn’t believe I did. I bought another lens for my camera. Since 2024, I’ve been looking for a second telephoto lens, something that’s longer than the longest zoom lens I currently own, which is a 400-mm lens. Most of my searches yielded only manual lens and having dealt with manual lenses in the past, I’d rather not have another manual lens, especially when I am using this lens for wildlife and action photos.
This week, while I was on a hunt for a compact mirrorless camera, I found the lens – a 150-600 mm lens. Even though it’s an older model lens, I compared the difference and found it almost negligible. The only difference is the newer model look more sleeker but it seems like the function is mostly the same. I picked this lens because it has a CPU, meaning it’s not a manual lens. It has auto-focus and vibration reduction, which will help with hand-held shots.
I’ve been told the lens is slightly used but it’s in good condition. It’s not my first time to buy used lenses and it won’t be my last. I also feel that if I’m to get a new camera, my lenses will still be usable, I just need to get a lens adapter.
I appreciate you stopping by and hope you have a wonderful week ahead.
