How you’ve evolved/ changed as a writer/ blogger over the years?
How have you changed in your blogging journey? Has it helped you understand the world and its people, better?
My journey as a blogger started in 2013 and over the years, my writing style have changed as I have changed as a a person. In 2023, I decided to migrate the flash fiction and short stories I wrote before 2020 to another blog I called “This is Another Archive.” To do this, I must copy and paste the stories from this blog to the other one. I always read before I scheduled my posts and reading those stories often got me asking, “did I really write this?”
It isn’t that I thought it was improbable I could’ve written the tale, it’s just I was amazed at what I’ve written. That’s how much I feel my writing has evolved over the last few years, to the point which I don’t think I can write such stories. I don’t know what happened but after 2020, I can no longer write flash fiction and short stories so full of suspense and vivid imagery. Reading the stories I write these days feels a little sub-par compared to those written before the pandemic.
When I first began to blog, I didn’t know what to expect. I certainly wasn’t expecting to find a community of like-minded individuals from all over the world. I often feel that it’s here I truly found someone who understands the real me and not the me who always focused on pleasing those around me. It allowed me to express my thoughts freely in this judgment-free zone, which I feel I’ve been looking for for years.
In the last year or so, I have been dedicating at least a post a week for musings and thoughts. This blog has always been a way to record my thoughts and over the years, somehow, I lost touch of that, so that minimum one post a week has been my way of returning to the purpose of this ever-changing blog.

“Did I really write this” made me laugh.

I’m sure I’m not the only one, do you ever feel the same about your writing?

Thanks Yinglan for sharing your thoughts. I also feel the same way when I re-share my older stories and poems. I think it’s because our writing style evolves.

I agree and I get inspiration from the books I read or listen and the genres of books I used to listen is very different to what I read and listen to now.
