Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #386 – The Power of Juxtaposition

Happy Sunday! Patti is hosting this week’s Lens-Artists Photo Challenge and it’s all about the juxtaposition of things.

I’m trying to think if I’ve ever done something related to juxtaposition for a photo challenge before. I probably have, but it will take an eternity to search through the 5000+ posts in my archive. Oh well…

I will start with the obvious one – little bug, big flower! I don’t know about you but I always feel like a winner when I get a photograph of a bird or bee or some kind of bug in mid-motion because it’s one of those photos you can’t get on a daily basis. It also amazes me to see insects at work, whether it’s a bee collecting nectar for the hive or an ant searching for food, every insect is always flying off to somewhere. It goes to show this world is inhabit by more than just us, humans.

These are a juxtaposition in size. A lone tree at the top of a mountain. I was glad I had my long zoom lens with me that day. Then, there are these tents against the beautiful red shear cliffs at Capitol Reef National Park. I can’t think of a better place to set up camp, though I would perhaps not sleep in a tent.

Finally, it’s a case of old versus new.

I laughed when I saw the building in the back. The design of it and the color made it look like the poop emoji. It’s certainly uniquely modern as the backdrop to the medieval-looking building in the foreground. It was one of the things I liked about my visit to Edinburgh, Scotland, there’s always something new squeezed in between of its older-styles buildings.

Like Edinburgh, there are always bits and pieces of modernism tucked between the old world charm like this modern building at the end of the street among the older style buildings. I don’t see that where I live. Where I live, the buildings feel new with short-lived admiration, which follows by long-term lackluster.
