Happy Saturday!
Um, can someone please return spring when it’s found? I’m not supposed to need to put shade clothes over all the garden bed in March and I am certainly not supposed to be switching my winter wardrobe to summer wardrobe. This week has been hot and I am not the only one who’s feeling this way. Yesterday, I found the broccoli and cabbage wilting in the afternoon heat bad. It’s March but it feels like May or June.
I feel I should be grateful that it’s not 100-degree-Fahrenheit like those in Phoenix, Arizona or Las Vegas. I should be grateful that it’s only topping out at 80-degrees-Fahrenheit and that it’s not windy unlike those in my neighboring states such as Wyoming who’s under a fire advisory.
Though Friday was the spring equinox, Wednesday was when nature came to life. When I headed home from work on Wednesday afternoon and stopped at a Walmart parking lot, I saw the bare branches of the trees covered in flowers. When I got home and stepped into my backyard, I saw my plum tree in the corner covered in white blooms. Truly spectacular! Now, let’s just hope there’s no weird sudden frosts nor strong wind and I should have a harvest of delicious plums this year.

Even my asparagus patch has woken up and every time I walk by, it seems like it’s grown an inch. I planted this patch in spring of 2024, so this is its third season. I thought it would mean I can harvest the spears this year but according to the internet, I have to wait until 2027 to harvest.
With this warm weather, I saw on the news the other night about people suddenly rushing to garden centers and nurseries to look for tomato transplants. I laughed at the headline because I know it’s still too risky to plant tomatoes now and even if this warm weather sticks, the soil temperature most likely has not reached its optimal level yet.
Though most of my tomatoes are just now beginning to germinate, looking at the news report and the fact that nurseries are already stocking up plants had me feeling urgent all of a sudden. I haven’t even started my squash and cucumbers yet as I usually wait until April but maybe I should get started.
I want to thank you for reading and visiting. Thank you to Natalie for hosting WeekendCoffeeShare, and have a wonderful week ahead.
