
Nervously, in her high-heels and yellow-dress, Susan walked up the path to the synagogue. As a child, her mother would drag her out of bed, fit her into a dress, and pull her hand until they were seated side-by-side in a pew. When she turned 18, she moved out and never attended another church.
A year ago, she stepped into her mother’s synagogue for the first time in 18 years to attend her mother’s funeral. “I hope you’ll reconsider returning under better circumstances,” Rabbi Joseph said.
She smiled and replied, “I’ll think about it.”
Well, she decided, today’s the day.
