This week, Ann-Christine is looking back at Lens-artists Challenge #44, which was all about color harmonies. However, instead of color harmonies, for challenge #414, she is challenging us to post photos related to harmony in a general sense.

For me, the word – harmony – equates peace. During my trip in China, I was surprised by how many ancient gardens I visited. It was completely unexpected as I know my mom does not like anything related to gardens and gardening. The only reason we even visited these gardens was because emperors from previous Chinese dynasties had spent time in. The gardens were huge and packed with people, just like everywhere I go in China.

In my opinion, gardens are supposed to be peaceful and not have crowds. The people I encountered in the garden seem to be girls dressed in traditional ancient Chinese attires with extended hair twisted in delicate knots. Behind them would be followed by a guy with a camera or a guy carrying a phone on a selfie stick. It was a strange sight. I asked my mom why people were doing this and she told me it’s all for social media. “These days, youngsters are making ends-meet by doing livestreaming and other forms of social media.” My mom said.

Isn’t that a sad truth? And why did they have to do it in a peaceful garden?

In the end, we managed to beat the crowds in a few of the gardens. It’s all about the timing in China when it comes to visiting places like these. When the timing works, it’s amazing because, then, you will really get to see the garden for what it is – a tranquil harmonious place full of life in every corner.
