Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #418 – Memories

This week, it’s Tina’s turn to lead Lens-Artists Photo Challenge and for challenge #418, it looks like I’m taking a stroll down memory lane.

Sometimes, it’s so odd what looking photographs will do. Sometimes, there will be no recollection of the events that happened in the photo and then, simply by looking at the photos, suddenly, the day would come flooding back. Has this happened to anyone?

Everyday, I get a notification on my phone, showing me pictures from years past. The above photos were showed for October 17th. The calendula was from the 2025 garden and so were the vegetables in the raised bed. I often document the garden because documenting helps me learn, not only from mistakes but how to improve the garden for future seasons. I often find just by taking a photo creates sorta like a bookmark in my memories.

Scrolling down the photos, I landed on this photo of a waterfall. The date on the photo was October 17, 2020. My family and I had gone on a hike that day. In fact, we went on quite a few hikes that year since it was either that or be stuck indoors. I hadn’t started the garden yet, so I kept getting cabin fever from being trapped indoors. That was my third time attempting this hike. My first two tries didn’t come close to making my way to the waterfall.

I remember being disappointed when I saw the waterfall because of its size. I’ve seen many other waterfalls that are much taller and more majestic than this. At least I’ve seen it.

I was watching a video on YouTube last night about the top 16 most boring interstate highways in the U.S. and was surprised I’ve experienced 2 of the 16! Being fascinated by the vast highways and roads and all the places they lead, watching that video took me back to a chilly November day in 2025 when I did the 9-hour drive from my home to the Grand Canyon. Le Fevre Overlook was the first scenic stop along Highway 89 A. After taking enough pictures of the beautiful Utah scenery in the distance, I couldn’t help but take a picture of the road I came.

It’s funny how my mind reminds me of the great trips taken from time to time.
